[SOLVED]Help! LinuxSampler Installation

Post by lowkey » Sun Feb 03, 2008 3:41 pm

Hi Peep's

Ive been trying to install LinuxSampler but I'm going around in circles :/ I had LinuxSampler installed on my old computer (very late night magic moment) but I'm running into problems.

I'm using Linux Mint (based on Ubuntu 7.10) This is what Ive done so far...

I went to this page...
http://www.linuxsampler.org/downloads.html#libgig

And read this...
gigedit
|
(mandatory)
|
V
QSampler ~~~(optional)~~~> libgig JSampler
| A |
| | |
(mandatory) (mandatory) (mandatory)
| | |
V | V
liblscp LinuxSampler jlscp

So I clicked on the "Debian" and downloaded the folowing debs...

libgig_3.2.1-1_i386.deb 05-Dec-2007 16:52 93K
linuxsampler_0.5.1-1..> 06-Dec-2007 21:54 102K
liblscp_0.5.5-1_i386..> 15-Oct-2007 15:55 27K
qsampler_0.2.1-1_i38..> 07-Dec-2007 02:42 236K
gigtools_3.2.1-1_i38..> 05-Dec-2007 16:51 35K
qsampler_0.2.1-1_i38..> 07-Dec-2007 02:42 236K

i then started JACKctrl then qsampler and get the following message...

14:28:17.931 Client connecting...
14:28:17.938 Server is starting...
14:28:17.943 linuxsampler
14:28:17.975 Could not start server. Sorry.
lscp_client_create: cmd: connect: Connection refused
14:28:24.194 Server was stopped with exit status 0.

Ive come to the end of my "skills" and I dont know what to try next.

PS. Is LinuxSampler aimed at advanced user's because the installation process seem's to assume I know alot more than I do. Please dont take this as an insult to what your doing but that's how it feels so far :s

First, try to run Linuxsampler from the command line in a console:

Code: Select all

$> linuxsampler
What's the output? Do you get a smiley face on the last line?

Sorted it.

I uninstalled everything with LinuxSampler then reinstalled it again.

Thanks anyway :)

lowkey,
keep in mind that the binary LS .debs don't exploit your machine fully (I think the polyphony is set to 64 voices etc), so if you want
to fully exploit your machine you should compile either the release tarballs or CVS for bleeding edge features and then tweak the configure parameters.
The next LS release should allow runtime configurable parameters so recompilation will normally not be needed.

Cheers Benno :)

I'm going to find a good compilation tutorial and work through it. I really don't understand the process as well as I should. Configuring LS to get the best out of it will be worth the time because I'd like to use just LS and kick my VST addiction

I planned to write a Debian cooking howto in the next days, ... let's see if I really do it ... :)

Thank you Cuse :)

I'll put it to good use because I'm going to start from scratch. My normal desktop is going on a usb stick.
