It appears now that starting LS and loading an lscp script in fantasia is working kinda reliably.

I'm using the Maple Virtual MIDI Cable to route MIDI data from cubase to LS, and upon the 1st playback of my project I get some nice sounding audio as expected.

However, if I stop playback, and then resume it I get no more audio. I have to restart the LS backend and reload the lcsp script for make it work again for a another 1-shot playback.

Hi dougal, other users confirmed your problem in Cubase when using LinuxSampler in VST mode (LinuxSampler can be loaded in the VST rack but does not appear in the "out" dropdown).
We are trying to track down and resolve the problem and hopefully post an updated binary in the next days. We will post news about the issue on this thread.
thanks,
Benno

Correct, but it doesn't appear in the "out" dropdown.

> Just in case you didn't know: if you want to run the VST, you should not start the LS backend.

I'm not running the LS backend as well, I presume the LS runs entirely within the VST plugin - and it appears to crash because it stops working. Sometimes only LS stops, sometimes it crashes cubase as well.

I shall try now to run it as a separate process, perhaps then I can capture any causes of errors.

Thanks benno, I'll keep an eye on developments.

Ok, here's a new release candidate: http://download.linuxsampler.org/dev/wi ... _setup.exe.

Changes for the VST plugin:
  • It should now be possible to load a saved plugin state with more than one sample channel.
  • Doing "forbidden" things in Fantasia, like creating new devices, now puts up an error dialog instead of causing unstability and crashes.
  • The reset sampler button in Fantasia should be working now, instead of causing a sequencer crash.
  • MIDI should hopefully be working in Cubase and Nuendo now.
Changes for both VST and stand-alone:
  • Import to the instrument database should be working better now (there still seems to be some problems with how Fantasia reports the result of the import in some cases).
  • GUI libraries for gigedit and qsampler were updated.

Hi Andreas,

That sounds really promising. I haven't got much time in the next few days, but hopefully I shall be able to test and report back either over the weekend or early next week.

Your efforts (and those of other members of the team) are much appreciated.

Hi guys, I found a little time to install and play the latest beta.

It seems to be actually running quite a lot smoother, and the MIDI port now appears in Cubase :)

Upon playback, notes are mostly sounding correct but I notice a couple of problems:

1. The note attack doesn't seem to be entirely correct. It seems to 'cut in' abruptly
2. Some notes appear to come 'out of nowhere' or are sounding an octave too high.

I am linking here an image of one of my simple string parts, a midi file of that part and an audio mixdown of it. It should be quite easy to hear the errors, but unfortunately I cannot attach a GIG of the samples as it's part of the VSL.

After restarting cubase, both of these problems have gone away. Playback is now flawless :P

It's weird but it was definitely wrong, and now it's definitely right. :x

EDIT: I loaded IE to post this message, and now cubase has crashed (frozen up) -

We will have a good sample of what can be done in linux for you very soon. Just for example we are able to run a full orchestral template with realtime access to all samples running all day (or days and days) with little to no problems. It took years to get right but it all works off one machine now. Very cool :)

I will keep you informed when we have something cool to show you :)

Do you still need the performance tool with open octave?

As it turns out even though I own The Performance Set (big money), I have no need for them. Alex Stone has been giving my wife lessons and teaching her how to manually achieve better results than the performace tool.

So the answer is well yes and no. If you like the sound of what The Performance Tool offers and are willing to be limited by it's lack of ports, you can run it in wine and all works well. However I am of the opinion that it is 98% hype and is not needed.

We have opened up the entire VSL library and every articulation to named program changes. It is super simple to change between articulations on the fly.

I will have a video on the website in the next few days outlining the new features in Open Octave Midi and you will see how easy it is now.
Thanks!
