Re: Using disks with noatime

thanks for the post ! Yes, noatime can help to improve performance. (personally I think it should be disabled by default as IMHO no one uses that information). it would be interested if someone could run a few stress tests with LS with and without noatime and report the improvements he is getting. Re: Blanchet 1720

Anders, muito obrigado, voce e' o melhor ! = thank you very much, you are the best :) (sorry for bragging with foreign language knowledge, I'm not brazilian but italian :) ) BTW cuse is adding the free GIGs to the LS Instruments page, http://www.linuxsampler.org/instruments.html it would be cool if ...

Re: Mats Helgesson's Maestro Concert Grand v2

Thanks Anders ! beers++ :) it sounds indeed much better than FreePiano http://www.alchemystudio.it/FreeSamples/FreePiano.zip but to be compared to the PMI pianos the middle tones sound a bit dull. I am by no means an expert, it would be interesting to hear opinions from Grigor and other pianists too...

Re: Mats Helgesson's Maestro Concert Grand v2

Excellent Anders ! Sounds promising. I am currently away from my LS box, and since I am a very impolite guy would you be so kind to render those 4 classical MIDI (chopin) to ogg and post them here ? I used them alot while porting LS to Windows as they put a decent load on LS :) Should we one day mee...

Re: List of sample libraries

aurus, thanks for the link! how does this piano sound ? Is it currently the best sounding large free piano sample ? I have seen that on that webpage there are other samples too like harpsichord, organ etc, but not in GIG format (kontakt,sf2). Could someone ask the authors and ask if we can turn it i...

Re: 64 bit benefit

I only quickly tried LinuxSampler's synthetic voice benchmark, gigsynth (to get an estimate of polyphony) I tested on windows with gcc3 and on Linux with gcc4 in 64bit mode. In 64bit mode I got an improvement in polyphony of 30-50% But OTOH I don't know if it's in part to gcc4 generating better code...

Re: The Ideas Collection

If I find my old C code which extracts the XML from the NKI I will post it, food of thought for you guys :) BTW: I am not familiar with EXS24 but it does not seem to offer that much features. OTOH many samples do seem available in that format, perhaps we should try to write a converter for that form...

Re: The Ideas Collection

the default NKI format is just a zipped XML (with a few bytes binary header). Only kompakt/kontakt based sample libraries (sample library + bundled sampler) are encrypted. The problem is NKI has more features than GIG, more sample mangling functions, scripting etc so creating an engine which can ren...

Re: Ideas for new sample libraries

yes, a general midi compatible drumkit makes sense. many users would like to play General MIDI files in high quality. The default MIDI synthesizers on all operating systems are quite low quality: - Microsoft Wavetable Synth (Windows) - Quicktime MIDI synth (Windows, OS X) - timidity (Linux) all thre...
