Re: The Ideas Collection

Another way to acquire knowledge in math is buying a few books. I'm sure a few months of studying diligently can bring you farther than an university course. I'm convinced that there are nowadays very good self-study math books. The most important factor is as always motivation. I've seen ultra-moti...

Re: PS3 and LinuxSampler

AFAIK IBM sells boards based on the cell processor (to accelerate programs in servers and workstations) but I bet they are damn expensive ... a few thousand $ vs a few hundred for the PS3. So for the experimenter the PS3 is always the best solution, available everywhere and at a low price thanks to ...

Re: The Ideas Collection

About those closely guarded secrets. I remember when time stretching and pitch shifting was one of those magical forumulas only a few knew. now open source apps like rubberband achieve more or less the same quality as commercial apps. I think over time all those apps like guitar simularots will be a...

Re: PS3 and LinuxSampler

Yes Anders you are right, once the LS modular engine will be up and running one could in theory target the PS3 coprocessors, far from trivial but doable. As a synth the PS3 is certainly great. If we keep the code generator flexible enough it should be possible to target the PS3 too. But this is for ...

Re: PS3 and LinuxSampler

Christian and me were toying with the idea of using cheap PS3 as a sampling cluster using the coprocessors on board, they would probably churn out lots of voices but the problem is that the PS3 hardware is too limited, the biggest showstopper is the limited amount of RAM. according to: http://en.wik...

Many knowledgable people, many work...

Re: The Ideas Collection

Hi all, thanks everyone for your informative posts. BTW Darren your post on LAD about DSP algorithm prototyping is interesting, it would be nice if you could summarize it below (links to those packages like clam etc along with a small description etc). These tools will certainly come handy at some p...
