Re: A draft whitepaper of my parameterization idea

I've just suddenly realized here that what I've been doing this entire time is developing an idea centering around the use of DSP for control signals. This might allow me to step back and refine some ideas.

Re: A draft whitepaper of my parameterization idea

Damnit, I really hate being on the cusp of solving an interesting problem, and not quite being able to get there. The linking functions are one of the things I've glazed over so far. I'm at the edge of an idea about how these can work, but I can't quite make the leap. Hopefully, some sleep will help...

Re: Anechoic sampled instruments and reverberation

Unfortunately, the middle is the ONLY place anything else in this room can go. The doors to my room are double-wide lightweight fold-outs, so that wall almost doesn't count as a wall. I suppose I could put wheels or slider feet on my Stand of a Thousand Things, so I can move it to better positions f...

Re: Anechoic sampled instruments and reverberation

The DIY solutions cost about a tenth of the commercial solutions. They cost even less if you, like me, already have a mess of rockwool and fabric hanging about. :D I have an idea for the "Stand of a Thousand Things" to sit in the middle of my room. At chair height, a mess of finger- and hand-activat...

Re: A draft whitepaper of my parameterization idea

I'm working on the diagrams now. Hopefully, I can make some that look decent. I'm using Dia for the purpose.

Re: A draft whitepaper of my parameterization idea

I'm suddenly wondering if the logic I've created with these morphing functions can be extended to allow for the construction of any kind of DSP block. I'll have to think on that one a bit.

Hopefully, this mug of Newcastle Brown I have here will help with that.

Re: Anechoic sampled instruments and reverberation

Well, Larry didn't have an anechoic chamber handy when he recorded his library. It was just him, Pat Mastelotto, Pat's drums, and some very close-miking, one drum at a time (they didn't set up any kits). Another interesting trick is exemplified in the portable vocal booth: http://www.digitalprosound...

Re: Anechoic sampled instruments and reverberation

I wish I had access to an anechoic chamber for my sampling needs. Maybe once I transfer to university, I'll have one there. That won't be for over a year, though. I might have to make do with some creative improvisation.

Re: A draft whitepaper of my parameterization idea

Here's the third draft, based on your suggestions. I also added a note about the implementation.

EDIT: Paper removed, as the whole concept and design has moved on from there. The rest of this thread has all of the details. Trust me, it's cool. :)
