Well, I should clarify: I remember once reading a (blog, I think) post from him wherein he mentioned that such functionality was the plan.
Just covering my butt...

Re: Sample library and synthesis musings
Of course, none of this is happening until I get the money to finish building my mics and mic preamps. *sigh* It's always something...

Re: MIDI filter / scripting (?)
Yeah, I guess that puts a stop to that. Paul Davis mentioned that Ardour 3 is going to have Keykit-like functionality for MIDI, but I don't know when that's getting released. Other than that, I don't know of anything. Sorry.

I believe Tim Thompson's Keykit works on Linux: http://nosuch.com/keykit/
It's as deep and thorough as they come, too.

Re: Sample library and synthesis musings
That's a little beyond any one person's building skills, I think, especially just for the purpose of capturing a sound library. ;) Nevertheless, my idea was not too dissimilar in that I had the use of solenoids in mind. A counterweighted swing-arm might work, too, but it would have to be height-adju...

Re: Sample library and synthesis musings
Well, given that I *am* a mechanical engineering student, I might be able to think of something. NI's Akoustik mentions the use of a mechanical aid to play the notes, and given that their library is only white keys, I'm willing to bet their robot couldn't play the black ones. The harpsicho...

Re: Sample library and synthesis musings
I'm thinking about how to go about sampling that grand piano, and I'm not confident I can hit keys evenly enough to get 32 layers so consistent across the entire 88-key range without building a robot (of course, that would be cool in and of itself). That means I'd likely have to find an experienced ...

Re: The Design Thread
Okay, I've been doing some more thinking. Here's an idea and some drawings of how this modular system might go together. First, an overview of the whole thing: http://www.jamesongalleries.com/temp/overview.png The idea here is that there is a global (this would be "global" on a per-patch basis) sect...

Re: Sample library and synthesis musings
You know, I keep forgetting I have an Optigan downstairs in the basement. It was in a quasi-working state last I checked, as in, I could get it working long enough to sample it. Yet another source of odd sounds...

Re: The Ideas Collection
Well, I'm a moderator, and I'm able to split topics, but I can't figure out the interface, and I'm afraid of messing something up. I created a new thread here to continue this discussion:
