Re: midi instrument maps
Wonderful stuff, Alex, thank you for posting these amazing reports. Have you considered collecting your posts from here and the Reaper board, perhaps for publication of some kind ?

Re: TASCAM Ceases development of Gigastudio
Fascinating news, but not at all unexpected by those of us who have been in this game long enough (anyone else remember Opcode and Studio Vision ?). I agree that hopes for an open-source Gigastudio are likely to be disappointed, though I'm all for anyone trying to persuade Tascam that it's a good id...

... there's more than enough tools to write and produce with..... Indeed. I forgot to mention one new app that's been making waves (pun intended) here in the studio: Rakarrack -- guitar effects processor par excellence Truly outstanding Linux audio software. My students love it, they all want it, b...

Honestly, one of the reasons I love Linux is its depth.
Enjoy!

Re: Need help installing LS & friends in UbuntuStudio Gutsy.
Open the "Settings" tab in the Setup dialog in QJackCtl, find the drop-down box at the bottom of the dialog labeled "MIDI Driver", by default it's set to "none" change it to "seq". I learn something valuable and new every day. :) Not all applications support JACK MIDI yet, LS is being one of the fi...

Re: gigedit questions
The "velocity response" is the relationship between midi note-on velocity and volume. As an old MIDI hand I'd like to add that velocity does not only relate to loudness, it is also related to brightness, i.e. the harder the key is struck the more high frequency content is present in the resulting s...

Re: OLPC XO + LinuxSampler = poor man's instrument ?
...you could try with the LS ALSA driver. It is currently limited to 16bit audio but I don't think the XO comes with a 24bit audio card, according to Wikipedia the audio chip is AC97 compatible. Oh yeh, I forgot that LS also does ALSA audio. That's good news. Yes, the chipset uses the AD1888 AC97 i...

Re: OLPC XO + LinuxSampler = poor man's instrument ?
Hi Benno, Sorry, I have to make this reply rather short. I'll try doing LS with the XO as soon as I get past this week. I have a deadline tomorrow for the XO article, and I have to prepare for two different kinds of performances this weekend. I'm swamped right now. :( But yes, LS on the XO should be...

Re: Relocation/renaming of gigs and the instrument database
Agree++.dahnielson wrote:One proposal would be the ability to search for "lost" gig files (if you rename a directory or move them) and just update the path to them in the database.
I think Reaper does something like that, it's very helpful.
