Re: The Fairlight CMI

Alex, did you use it mostly for orchestral composition, or did you get more adventurous with it? It seemed quite capable of not only some serious sample playback, but also some good synthesis and resynthesis capabilities.

Re: Side thread: Sndobj, Python, and RT-safe

It still seems to me that any code can be called "RT-safe" as long as it runs on a fast enough machine. Still, RT-safe has a specific definition, and that's what I was after. Thanks for the help.

Re: The Fairlight CMI

A similar search for "Synclavier" and related subjects turns up nothing on the inner features of the Synclav. I mostly ended up with a lot of Frank Zappa videos.

The Fairlight CMI

For some reason, I decided to hit Youtube in search of any and all videos featuring the Fairlight CMI and its descendents. Re: Way OT: Any cooks and foodies around?

Ah, so THAT'S my problem! :D

I'm also not surprised you're a foodie, too. Geeks, food, and wine seem to go hand in hand. I make my own mead on occasion, too. I've had some pretty good batches recently.

Re: Way OT: Any cooks and foodies around?

That burger looks pretty good. I really need to work on my photography skills.

I think I'll make another pizza for tomorrow. I'll start the dough for the crust tonight. No wonder I'm so fat. At least I walk to school every day.

Way OT: Any cooks and foodies around?

Here's a pizza I made the other day: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2201/2413356599_a77b28bc1c.jpg I'm starting to get pretty good at this pizza making thing. Dough was hand-kneaded and set in the fridge to rise overnight. The sauce is extremely simple: take a can of tomato sauce, mix in some minced...

Re: MIDI filter / scripting (?)

Oohhh, okay! It's one of those "shift" buttons they like to put on gear these days. Man, that would be a pain in the butt.

There goes any hope of real-time safety. To be fair, though, the GStreamer folks are trying to fix that. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that a lot of professional Windows music applications aren't RT-safe.
