Status? (of new sampler format)

This forum section was originally created while we were discussing a new, additional engine and sampler format designed from scratch. In the meantime this resulted in our new SFZ2 engine, which is already implemented to a large extent. However this is still the right place for ideas, feature requests, drafts and plans for new engine / format concepts and ideas. We now have 3 sampler engines (Gig, SFZ2, SoundFont 2). Why not having more?

Is there already a decision about the new sampler format?

Yes, it's going to be SFZ. Work on it has already begun.

Hi,

will the new sfz engine support commercial libraries, for example Garritan, and is there a timline for the release with the new engine?

Greetings

Thomas

If the sample devlopers release their sample pools in a format we can read (usually WAV or AIFF), LinuxSampler will be able to play them. However, Garritans libraries, while the definition file is SFZ, the samples are stored in a format we can't read (encrypted or something like that). So no, Garritan's libraries can only be played in ARIA.

There is no time line AFAIK, as there is just one developer working on it at the moment. But I guess that one goal (as stated previously somewhere -- forum? mailing list?) is to make at least one stable release of LinuxSampler per year, to not keep improvements locked away in CVS for extended periods of time (which kind of happened previously to v1.0). But if you want to try out the latest features, you can always build from CVS.
