[OK] Ubuntu 8.04.3 and LinuxSampler 1.0.0

Post by olinuxx » Mon Sep 14, 2009 2:07 pm

Hi,
I'm new on this forum.
I'm a contributor on http://www.linuxmao.org website for MAO with GNU-GPL's software.
SO, I want to make a article for the 1.0.0 version.
But, i don't win to install LinuxSampler 1.0.0 on my computer.

I'm on UbuntuStudio 8.04.3 because of her stability.
I've already try 9.04 but it's not good for me. I'm waiting for the next LTS UbuntuStudio/

So, what i make for install LinuxSampler :

* Download http://download.linuxsampler.org/packag ... 1_i386.deb
* Double-clic on it, Gdebi said me that liblinuxsampler is missing
* Download http://download.linuxsampler.org/packag ... 1_i386.deb
* Double-clic on it, Gdebi said me that libasound2 is missing
* Run Synaptic and make a search for libasound2 -> he is already install
* I re-install it and, with it, libasound2-dev and libasound2-plugins (for being sur that all of libasound2 is install on my computer)
* I re-double-clic on liblinuxsampler, Gdebi still said that libasound2 is missing ...

So, what's the way to follow ?
Thanks
Olivier

Those packages are compiled for the current Debian stable version, a.k.a Debian "Lenny". Most probably there are other library versions on Lenny than on your Ubuntu version, and that's probably why liblinuxsampler refuses to be installed.

We planned to upload Ubuntu packages in the next days. So either you wait couple days for those Ubuntu packages or you compile LinuxSampler and Co by yourself in the meantime. I recommend you to try compiling it by yourself, because the packages we will provide are only compiled for i486. So they will be suboptimal for recent architectures regarding performance. They are more intended for people who want to try out LinuxSampler the first time. Compiling LinuxSampler and Co is not hard. Here is a compilation howto for Debian based systems (like Ubuntu):

my computer take me off and said :

Code: Select all

/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lcelt
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

The strange thing is that libcelt is by no means used by LinuxSampler. Probably there is some installation problem regarding libcelt on your box, but still I wonder why LinuxSampler tries to link against it.

Thanks for your answer !
I read your post,
reinstall libcelt
install libcelt-dev
and it's ok!
Thanks a lot :)
I test it and come back here :)

So, now, it's ok !
All is running good.

I will go to test it.
And can make my article for linuxsampler.

So, you seem to be a developper of this project, and it's the 1.0.0 version .
If you're ok, i want to make an interview of you for linuxsampler.
Are you interesting ?
bye

Hi, it's cool !
So, i prepare a question list.
We've many possibility :
* Make an interview on IRC, mail, aother ...
* Make it in english, french, ...
My preference is to make it on IRC.
Do you want that I send the question's list before we make the interview ?
Or do you want that I question you on Live ?
As you want.
Just said it to me.
Bye !

ATM I dont have much time for hanging around on IRC. But in a week or so it should be better, then we could also talk on IRC.

BTW, the Ubuntu packages are now available from our downloads server.
