xruns on openSuSE 11.1

Post by musinity » Wed Sep 30, 2009 8:04 pm

Hi,

I'm trying to set up openSuSE 11.1 for audio. I tried several kernels, but after a few minutes with linuxsampler I get more and more xruns and delays with jack.

I tried the following kernels:

"kernel-trace 2.6.27.29" from the update repository. It is unuseable for realtime audio, because it produces hundreds of xruns. So I've installed

"kernel-rt-2.6.29.6" from Kernel Repository (http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/RT). This one works much better. The audio latency is good, but the system freezes at arbitrary times.
There are also two other flavours: rt_timing and rt_trace. Don't know whats the difference...

"kernel-rt-2.6.31" from the Kernel Repository

What kernel do you use on the system the rpms were compiled?

The rpms are usually compiled by Rui Nuno Capela. You may try to ask him which ready-to-use rt-stable kernel package might be good.
