linuxsampler svn fails to build in gentoo

Postby popoff » Mon Nov 24, 2014 5:19 pm

I am having a lot of trouble compiling the svn version of linuxsampler.

This is the build log - http://sprunge.us/eVXS
This is the ebuild I am using - http://gpo.zugaina.org/AJAX/Ebuild/2904551/View

I have tried to compile it manually (without portage or the ebuild) but that also fails.

It seems that it is failing at the parser.h message. I received a suggestion that "parser.h" is a header file that looks like it should be in the code, that this appears to be an issue with the svn trunk.

Is there anything I can do to remedy this or somewhere I can report properly is it is indeed an upstream issue?

Are you making sure to build the linuxsampler packages in the correct order according to the information on this page: http://linuxsampler.org/downloads.html

I did not have gigedit installed and it is not mentioned in the ebuild. The problem is that the gigedit ebuild requires linuxsampler so I'm in a circular dependency. I forked the gigedit ebuild, removed the requirement for linuxsampler from it but gigedit appears to need linuxsampler to build so I'm in another circular dependency.

This is the build log of gigedit with linuxsampler removed as a requirement, if it is of any help http://sprunge.us/GYBc

I don't know what's up about your problem. I don't think you need to compile gigedit, but you definately need to compile libgig before linuxsampler.
Seems like if you cannot get your ebuild to work you should contact the gentoo person maintaining it. As for your original problem of missing parser.h
this might be related to the XML parser. Typically, .h files are included in "dev" packages, at least in debian based distros. I have no experience how gentoo organizes things.

I was just trying to compile gigedit first because the dependency graph on the link you provided suggested to me that it was necessary for linuxsampler and libgig but perhaps I was reading that incorrectly. I have contacted the maintainer for the ebuild but I have received no reply from them which is why I'm desperately trying other avenues. Besides, I have tried to compile this manually, without any ebuilds, and it still fails.

What is the parser.h relating to or referencing at the point where the build fails? Is it a particular package or module?

I had the same problem. Not possible to compile LS from proaudio layer! And LS on regular repository does not have sfz and sf2 support. When are you going to fix it? People have to leave gentoo and use other linuxes because of that.

Well, it is frustrating but I'm not demanding that anyone fixes anything, it would just be great if someone who is involved with the development of linuxsampler could have a look at why it is failing. If it is bug in linuxsampler then a report can be filed, if it is something that can be changed on the gentoo side then we can take steps from there. At the moment I can't seem to get information from either side as to why this is failing to build.

This is probably a naive question but why can't you build LS in the conventional way, i,e. svn co and building in this order:
svn co https://svn.linuxsampler.org/svn/libgig/trunk libgig
svn co https://svn.linuxsampler.org/svn/liblscp/trunk liblscp
svn co https://svn.linuxsampler.org/svn/linuxsampler/trunk linuxsampler
svn co https://svn.linuxsampler.org/svn/qsampler/trunk qsampler
svn co https://svn.linuxsampler.org/svn/jlscp/trunk jlscp
svn co https://svn.linuxsampler.org/svn/jsampler/trunk jsampler
svn co https://svn.linuxsampler.org/svn/gigedit/trunk gigedit
(from downloads page). I've done this is on debian systems, no problem. You just need to be sure to have all the dependencies.

I have tried that, that's what I meant by compiling it manually, but it still fails at the same parser.h stage.

Gentoo is probably one of the good distro's of Linux. And you will have a good reason to use this. So keep on going. But, why not installing Ubuntu Stundio near Gentoo?
Compiling Linuxsampler and woriking in Ubuntu Studio works fine.

Kind regards,
