A friend of mine, Jay Ricketts, the first friend I made since moving here to Michigan, died yesterday morning of medical complications. He was 52, a husband and father, and among the finest keyboardists I have ever known.

I'm still in a daze about all of this, as we had a lot of plans for the summer, including a huge music jam festival which he hosts on his property, coming over to my place to sample much of his vintage gear collection (that was to be the big fun project), and any number of barbecues. It's amazing how fast life can change, and how fast a bright light can be taken away from us.

He was a Christian in the truest sense of the word, always there for his friends, always there to listen, never preaching or trying to convert. He was a man who lived his life as a good example to others, and as a result, he has touched many lives, through message boards, through mailing lists, and in 3D space as well. I'm still in a daze, getting used to this empty feeling in my soul. If he could, though, he would tell me to soldier on and continue to accomplish what I can with my life and to be my own good example for others, and I intend to do that, now more than ever.

My condolences to you Darren as well. I feel with you. An old, young friend of mine passed away in November. He just turned 28, left his girl and little son. I always thought I was aware that it could happen to all of us at any time, but when it actually happens you realize you never were.
